Natural Ingredients
Clean Review's ingredients are:
Bentonite
Bentonite is a natural clay - although the thought of eating clay
for health seems odd to some people, bentonite has actually been
used medicinally for centuries by various traditional medicine
disciplines.
Bentonite is one of the most effective detoxifying agent for the
intestine - it is able to absorb much of the toxins in the gastrointestinal
tract while remaining inert or undigested.
Psyllium Seed Husk
Psyllium is derived from the seed of a Plantago plant. It is a
bulk-forming fiber rich in mucilage (a thick gluey plant substance
that can soothe and protect irritated and inflammed intestinal
tissues). Psyllium absorbs water to keep the stool hydrated and
soft - this causes a reflex contraction in the bowel that promotes
emptying.
Studies have also suggested that psyllium can lower total cholesterol
level.
Apple Pectin
Pectin is found in plant cell walls and in the outer skin and
rinds of vegetables and fruits (in this case, apples). Pectin
has gel-forming characteristics that have mild laxative and cholesterol-lowering
properties.
Diatomaceous Earth
Food grade diatomaceous earth is a safe and non-toxic material
that can destroy intestinal parasites.
Wheat Grass
Wheat grass is a young wheat plant - its juice has been used as
health food for decades and for a good reason: one ounce of wheat
grass juice has the vitamin and mineral equivalent of more than
2 lbs. of fresh vegetables!
Among its many health benefits, wheat grass can actually help
remove toxic metals from cells.
Chamomile Flower
Chamomile is widely used in herbal and tincture preparations,
with the main purpose of treating gastrointestinal complaints.
Indeed, the antispasmodic property of chamomile can relax spastic
or cramping intestinal muscles.
Cascara Sagrada Bark or Buckthorn Bark
Cascara sagrada is derived from the bark of the buckthorn tree.
It has a mild laxative effect by increasing the strength of contractions
of the intestinal muscles.
Ginger Root
Besides its use as a spice, ginger has amazing medicinal qualities.
It has long been used to treat migraines, motion sickness, nausea
and vomiting.
For the gastrointestinal tract, ginger has a couple medicinal
properties: it can stimulate the production of bile and help the
tone as well as the function of the small and large intestines.
Marshmallow Root
Marshmallow plant, the ingredient in the candy we know and love
with the same name, actually is a cultivated vegetable and herb.
The key active ingredient in marshmallow is mucilage, a goey and
gel-like substance that can soothe and protect inflamed mucous
membranes and other digestive tissues.
Butternut Root Bark
Similar to rhubarb, butternut is a mild laxative and cathartic.
Additionally, its has antiseptic qualities and has been traditionally
used to remove tapeworm.
Goldenseal Root
Goldenseal has been used by native American tribes for a variety
of ailments. Today, scientists attribute goldenseal's healing
powers to its active ingredient, a plant alkaloid called berberine.
Goldenseal's berberine has an anticancer and antibiotic property
that can also stimulate the immune system. Goldenseal can help
flush away bacteria from the urinary tract.
Gentian Root
Gentian is a bitter-tasting digestive stimulant that is used in
herbal medicine as a digestive aid. It can stimulate the production
of gastric digestive juices and bile, as well as the production
of saliva. Gentian can also promote the emptying of the stomach.
Rhubarb Root
Besides its use in pie recipes, rhubarb also has medicinal properties:
it helps stimulate the digestive process by encouraging the production
of bile salts. As a traditional medicine, rhubarb has been used
for the treatment of constipation, diarrhea, gastrointestinal
problems, and more.
Acidophilus Lactobacillus
Acidophilus is a natural flora species found in our digestive
tract. Considered a "probiotic", acidophilus helps maintain
intestinal health and serves as a natural antibiotic.
When taken regularly, acidophilus can help ease irritable bowel
syndrome, control diarrhea, fight urinary tract infections and
more.
